QTR + Kayenta - white streaks in deep shadows

QTR + Kayenta - white streaks in deep shadows

2005-08-03 by Scott McLoughlin

These aren't subtle. Largish streaks. QTR + UC inks +
2200.

I'm using the Entrada profile, so I know it's not an ideal
paper + profile match.

But I'm getting some white streaks (largish) in the shadows.

Nozzle check looks fine.

Is this a common "symptom" of some problem?

BTW, this paper doesn't seem to feed as well as EEM. 2200
frequently complains before I finally get the paper to feed
smoothly.

Again, is this a common problem with different papers? Or
is there some common problem with my 2200 I might
identify and address/fix?

Thanks.

Scott

I think some papers are more "slippery" with respect to how the
rollers react to the coating. I use a lot of Kayenta with my 2200
without problems, but I almost always, as a matter of course, have my
finger resting on the paper top edge to give it a little nudge.

The "feedability" seems to vary over time, and I've often wondered if
maybe coating dust builds up on the rollers. In general, I've found I
can never reliably put a stack of paper in it and expect it to feed
perfectly every time. I pretty much feed one at a time. Sometimes
with EEM during proofing I'll put in a stack. It does pretty well.

Regards,
Clayton

This happens with many papers. With the larger printers, it's common
for an adjustment to be made within a RIP to change the paper feed to
compensate for the difference is feed rate. You can also do this at a
hardware level, but you would need to sacrifice a little over a meter
of paper to print the pattern, and then measure it to get the
compensation value. I don't know if you can do this in the hardware
for the smaller printers.
