With the larger printers, it's common for an adjustment to be made within a RIP to change the paper feed to compensate for the difference is feed rate. You can also do this at a hardware level, but you would need to sacrifice a little over a meter of paper to print the pattern, and then measure it to get the compensation value. I don't know if you can do this in the hardware for the smaller printers.
