Hahnemuehle Photo Rag on Epson 2400 in advanced b&w mode?

Hahnemuehle Photo Rag on Epson 2400 in advanced b&w mode?

2005-08-22 by sdpage0

Using the Advanced B&W mode on the Epson 2400, I have had good results
from the Epson Enhanced Matte. However, I want to get back to the
heavier, more interesting texture of Hahnemuehle Photo Rag 308gsm.

I've tried various things without success. In most cases I get smears
outside the image area, or too much loss of shadow detail (too dark).

I had started with the same settings as used for Enhanced Matte
(except I switched to front load). I tried reducing ink by 20% -
surprisingly, this made the smearing worse. I tried the ICC profile
from inkjetart.com - same. I tried the Hahnemuehle Epson 4800 profile
in colour mode - disasterous. everything purple. I tried setting to
Velvet Fine Art - smeared again.

I've run out of patience for testing this now. Surely someone has
managed to make this popular combination work well?

Hi there,

Don't know if this could be your problem or not:

The reviewer sounds like he was experiencing the same type of
problems and discovered that it was caused by incorrectly using the
front manual paper feed slot.

Hope that helps.

Cheers!

I think this is right--use the rear most top feed. The front feed
use (for very thick materials) changes the head height and probably
accounts for the smearing
