Measuring density with eye-one

Measuring density with eye-one

2005-08-27 by aimforth

I use the Eye-one photo to produce custom colour profiles, and have
recently started using it to help with QTR. I would like to be able to
measure print density so I can compare figures with those that others
produce, but I can't figure out how to do this with the eye-one
Measure or Share tools. I can only seem to get Lab readings

Can anyone help me out? or is it not possible

Cheers

Richard

Get a product called Babelcolor.
(www.babelcolor.com)It is about $60 and does a
wonderful job controlling the eye-one. You can get
direct density readings a la a densitometer.

Hi Richard.... If you don't want to buy BabelColor, at this link...

http://www.brucelindbloom.com/

click on the CALC button in the website's menubar, then select "Companding Calculator"
and you'll find a java converter that will convert (among other things) Lab values into
density.

For the occasional conversion, there's also

	http://www.brucelindbloom.com/

Click on Calc, then on Companding Calculator. Type in an L* value, click the
L* button, and the other values will be computed from it. (The radio buttons
only pertain to the graph--you can ignore them.)

For use all the time (and free) download Colorport from www.Xrite.com

You will have to make a target first, or do a search and you may find
some that are already built for use with QTR. The data types
available are as follows:

The CSV and Tab Delimited option saves the following data in a
combination of your choice to the selected file format:

Colorimetric data
§ Lab, LCH and XYZ
§ Illuminant and Observer
Spectral Reflectance data
Densitometric data
§ VCMY
§ Minus paper
§ Status: A, E and T
