PremierArt Luster Rag Smooth

PremierArt Luster Rag Smooth

2005-09-01 by Josh Hackney

Does anyone in this group have any experience using PremierArt Luster
Rag Smooth? I inquired about a rag based luster paper at my local
supplier (West Photo), and they recommended this product - they said
it is relatively new. So far, I have been happy with the results,
but due to my inexperience relative to the members of this forum, I
am wondering if there are any thoughts why this paper might not pass
muster.

The following is a link to the spec sheet on the PremierArt website.

http://www.premierimagingproducts.com/prfiart3323l.html

Quick specs:

weight - 325gm2
thickness - 23mil
Texture - hot press
Surface - luster smooth
Paper type - 100% rag
coating - single side

Additionally, could someone explain to me the difference between cold
press vs. hot press, besides the obvious temperature difference?
Thanks.

Best regards,

Josh

Paul R: mixing two new shades of ut-fs

2005-09-02 by john eckenrode

Hi Paul

Random thought. I am on the verge of running out of UT
ink in my CIS for my epson 1200. I am shortly gonna
convert my 2200 to my black and white machine. But in
the meanwhile i am still messing with my 1200. Anyway
I was wondering if it would be difficult to make a 5
tone FS inkset. I like warmer prints and my UT set had
too many dots in the 30% to 40% zone. For skin tones
it just didn't suit me. I jumped through a zillion
hoops to get rid of the dots through QTR and did okay,
I made some really nice curves except for those dots.
there are also some dots in the deep shadows but they
are not as noticeable.

I am willing to give up variable toneality for
smoothness. Would this be hard for me to do. I would
need a "bridge tone between" the two lightest tones
and a dark "bridge" between eboni and darkest grey. If
its too difficult i am just gonna go back to my UT
setup. But i thought this might be interesting to try
out.

Oh, I am only concerned about matte paper on this
printer, my usual is PFA.

Thanks for any input.
