Seminars, workshops?

Seminars, workshops?

2005-09-06 by ckayakman

I have been following this forum for over a year. I currently am
printing BW with a C86 and color with a 1280, MIS inks in both.
I feel that I really need some focused help with my post processing
and printing. I am generally satisfied with my ability to capture
interesting images but am frustrated in my efforts to create
satisfactory prints. Are Mr. Roark or Jones or any other highly
competent printers giving training or can someone suggest a seminar or
workshop anywhere in the US, Canada, Mexico, anywhere? Anyone willing
to let me work with them for a couple days for a reasonable fee?
Thanks in advance.

I have seen a number of digital printing classes offered, for example by Santa Fe
Workshops or the Maine Photographic Workshops. My approach will be to take a class in
digital workflow this fall at my local photography school (NESOP -- I am in the Boston
area), and then perhaps later to take one of the more advanced one-week printing classes
when I get a bit more confident with my photoshop workflow. I'm interested in both color
and B/W, but if you are focusing on B/W exclusively, then perhaps others can say which
classes they have taken that they thought were especially good. I have seen several good
books on digital workflow, but they typically spend only a small amount of time on B/W.
And my impression is that printing technology is changing so quickly that books on it are
pretty rare. Good luck!

Linda

Check out Jon Cone's workshops, I have heard nothing but good about
them.

That's what I've heard too. And such a beautuful setting in the Fall.
I wish I could get away to do one. Some day...

George deWolfe used to teach an excellent one-week b&w printing workshop at
the Palm Beach Photographic Workshops. I took it a couple years ago and it
was excellent. George Shaub also used to teach a similar workshop there. I
don't know if these workshops are still offered there but you could check
the Palm Beach Photographic Workshop catalog on line when it becomes
available.
