1280 clogging with PKN in spongeless cart

1280 clogging with PKN in spongeless cart

2005-09-10 by Ben Rosengart

Hi folks,
I have a 1280 with UT2, I've never used any other inks in it. My
MIS-supplied Eboni cart works fine, but a self-filled spongeless cart
with PKN clogs just about every other print. Any advice?

BTW, I have tried re-priming it. Didn't help.

Swap out with a cart you know works. See if the problem continues.
That will tell you if the problem is in the cart or the print head.
While the result is the same, the fixes are different.

I have. It doesn't. I should've been more explicit about that in
my initial post.

Thanks.

Then you probably have a defective cart or some problem in filling it.
I'd suck the ink and refill it. If that doesn't do the trick, tell MIS
and they'll exchange it or just send you a new one.

Thanks, Bob. I will give this a try.

If I want to try using Eboni instead of PKN in that cart, can I wash
it out with tap water or do I need distilled water? Is "filtered"
water (read Dasani or the like) close enough?

Refill it from scratch? I just tried re-priming it again, no dice.
Why would emptying the ink out and refilling it help? Can I put
the sucked-out ink back in the bottle, or is that asking for trouble?

Sorry to be such a pest with all the questions. I am new at this.
I feel like I should buy the group a beer.

You can wash the carts out with tap water. Acutally, I don't even wash
them out, just suck out all the old ink and refill iwth new as the
inks are compatible. But that's not what MIS recommends.

Put the old ink back in the bottle. There is no reason to throw it away.

O misery. MIS told me to suck 3cc out with the bottom-fill adapter.
I did -- no help. Concurrently, I ran out of ink in my perfectly
functional MIS-supplied Eboni cartridge, so I pulled out the plug and
squirted in some fresh Eboni, put the plug in, reset the chip ...

and what do you know, I've got the same problem with this cartridge
now! So now I think I must be doing something wrong in the filling
process. Tell me, is it very important when using the syringe to
avoid air bubbles? Because I don't think I've been too good about
that. (Not that it mattered with the other five chambers, though!)
