Digital BW, The Print

I have just run a test print with the MIS Ultratone UT-FSN, and UPK.

The inks appears to sit on the paper, rather than within the paper. Is 
this usual for these inks (I did not flush before installing), and if 
so is there any way of making them look a more integrated surface - I 
recall reading something about a spray (the black appears to stand out 
from the rest of the print). Hopefully there is a fix, because I prefer 
the look of the black only printing using Epson ink.
