Six Vs. Four inkset printers...

I'm comfortable with four ink printers (3000 & C80). I started wondering about six ink printers since that's what is currently available (1160's going the way of Edsel's). If one went with a six ink printer they could in theory load a four ink set and two additional types of black ink, such as MIS VM & a Full Spectrum black. Potential complications...might need to keep it to all pigment or all dye based, safest to stay within a brand of ink provider? Could print out by zero-ing out the non-used black inks from their respective channel (fill white or use curves)...that way the info wouldn't be sent to the printer? IF you wanted to try a different black for a particular image you would 'Apply image' the current black channel into either the light c or light m channels (I'm presuming that is where I would plug in the additional full blacks). Realizing the slight absurdity of the idea I'll finish with a favorite quote...
