Hello Myron..

If my memory serves me correctly, I believe I sold you some cut film
holders abour 6-7 years ago..If that's true, we've both gravitated to the
"digital arena"!

I too have been searching for the "source" of Costco's paper for the
purpose of finding larger (ie at least 13x19")..I'm getting what I consider
GREAT results with either QTR or paul Roark's workflow on a 1280 with MIS
spongless carts and their UT2 inks on this paper..

Has anyone on this group attempted to contact Costco's purchasing
department for the purpose of finding their vendor, or MORE likely pursuing
COSTCO themselves for a LARGE QUANTITY buy of 13x19 cut sheets by interested
members of this group..If there is ENOUGH INTEREST on their part as well as
the GROUP, maybe we can ALL get a supply of the larger paper...Probably a
"LONGSHOT", but this paper is GREAT IMHO!..Any ideas??

Is there any chance that the Kirkland/Costco Glossy paper has the
same origins as some of Ilford's paper? It too is made in Switzerland.

And if it is Ilford rebranded, perhaps one of Ilford's other
inexpensive papers will have similar characteristics.

I picked up a single package of an Ilford 13x19, 254 g/m2, glossy,
resin-coated paper that is identified as Printasia Premium Photo
Glossy Paper. It was made in Japan, and cost $27.99 at CompUSA (20
sheets). It looks pretty good for both colour and B&W (QTR + MIS
inks) on an Epson 2200, but I haven't done any tests or side-by-side
comparisons. I don't have ready access to more of it, so I'm
reserving it for those occasions when I want a big, cheap thrill ;-)

Yes, I have contacted the Costco buyer and found him very un-receptive to
the idea that larger sizes would have a reasonably large market. His
response was essentially that such a market might look large to us, but not
to Costco.

I've had the feeling the Costco paper might be either a giant beta for a
future Ilford or Epson paper, and/or Costco's contract may limit them to the
letter size to avoid competing with the supplier either now or in the
future. At any rate, the message seemed to be that I was wasting my time.

Yes, I think it is made by Ilford. But, while it's very similar to their
Galerie Smooth line, it is better in almost all respects. Among other
things, it has a buffered interior paper like Epson Premium Glossy paper.

Incidentally, when Costco was between batches, just before the current paper
was released, they had paper in the box that was made in Japan. I received
a box that actually had the Epson logo on the back. When I mentioned that
to the buyer he was a bit aghast, saying that should not have happened.

I've not found such a paper. The Printasia was a disappointment to me. The
Galerie smooth is the closest I've used. I suspect we'll see essentially
the same paper eventually appear as a premium paper sometime in the future.

Hello Paul..

Yes I guess you're right..

In the REAL WORLD, the demand for a 13x19 version wouldn't show up on a
"COSTCO PINHEAD"...too bad for us..

Since the same paper is often sold by vendors under different names,
is it possible that one of the niche paper suppliers could arrange to
sell this paper in different sizes? I'm thinking about the type of
paper supplier that many of us order from.

The Cosco paper is custom made by Ilford. As of a few months ago a realiable souce indicated to me that there was no chance this paper would be available in any other sizes. I assume this is still the case. Best, Phil

Will the back side of those cards take printing? I've been frustrated
trying to find a glossy stock to make postcards. The ink usually just will
not stick to the backs of glossy paper. Those that are made for postcard
use that I tried end up having a front side dmax that is totally inadequate.

FYI:
I saw the Kirkland 4 x 6 paper in my local Costco (Arlington, TX) and
the packages are labeled "Made in USA" and not "Made in Switzerland"
as the 8.5 x 11 boxes. Otherwise, the product descriptions read the same.
