Need some advice for setting up R200 for pigmented BO and B&W printing...

2005-10-30 by lfmiller422

I'm having a hard time pinning down the real-world, right-now options
for setting up my R200 for BO and B&W printing with the pigmented
inks. I understand that the R200 was designed for dye-based inks, but
uses the same physical cartridge as the pigment-based C86.

Paul Roark has talked about the MIS EZ-200 inksets, which apparently
are not yet available...does anyone have an ETA for that?

I see that Media Street is offering archival products for the R200.
Any thoughts or suggestions there?

Clayton Jones, in an earlier thread, mentioned that he had been using
the Eboni ink in the R200 with good results, but I've seen no
reference to the R200 with respect to that ink on the MIS site.

Clayton, if you're out there, how, exactly did you set that up? Did
you just use MIS's eboni for the C86?

I've lost track of all the box canyons and dead-ends I've gotten into
researching this, so in pathetic frustration I resort to this simple
plea: Please, what part number to I actually order to make this happen?

I thank you all for your indulgence.

It is easy, you have to buy bottle of Eboni inks from MIS, Black
refillable cartridge, chip resetter, and may be syringe, if you don't
have one. Fill the cartridge, reset it and put to K slot, you are
ready to print BO. MIS don't offer prefilled cartridges for r200.
Cartridge is ARC-T0481-EC, bulk Eboni inks are in bottles from 4oz to
gallon.

Unfortunately, following this group discussions it is pretty hard to
get canned solution. As soon as you settle on something, there will be
another ink set, or another possibility. If you are using MIS inks to
save on ink expenses, you could find soon that you spending quite a
lot of money on various 4oz ink bottles, at least it was my experience.
You could wait when MIS will make the latest set from Paul available,
or you could bite the bullet and buy available set and prepare curves
youself. Make a deeper search on "R200 UT7" on this forum and you will
find some more info how to use this and other sets with R200. If you
don't have access to densitometer, IMHO it is better to wait when MIS
will prepare set that could be used with printer driver.

Good luck,
Sergei

I filled an empty R200 cart from MIS with bulk Eboni ink. I doubt the
C86 cart would work because the chip is probably different.

As for printer settings, there are detailed instructions in article
3b at the web link below.

Clayton
