Film recorder as enlarger

Film recorder as enlarger

2005-11-07 by None

Has anyone considered using a film recorder as a digital enlarger? I
haven't been able to find too much information but I understand that
many units (polaroid 6000, 7000, 8000) use 7 inch CRTs to generate the
image. I'm wondering if you could project this image onto paper. Is
there something about these devices that would prevent imaging onto
paper?

I have made initial tests of imaging from a 1600x1200 flat panel. At
200 dpi (6 x 7.5 inches) the results are pretty impressive. Almost
impossible to see that they are digital. Of couse the output size is a
limitation that I would like to overcome.

I am also experimenting with using a flat panel (1920x1200) to expose
one line at a time onto film to produce a negative for contact
printing. That gives about 240 dpi onto film at 8x10 which should be
more than enough resolution for contact printing. So far I'm in the
extremely experimental stages but it all seems to have promise.

Any thoughts or comments?

Scott
