RE: [Digital BW] carts for the R2400 plus paper question?

Thanks Paul, I appreciate the info, I will probably wait until the CFS is
out to upgrade then. One thing I do like about using the Epson inks is that
the profiles always seem readily available. With my gen 4 inks I always had
to get one made, but maybe that's a better way to go in the end.

Also, this is something you wrote in an earlier post, "If you really want
the same sort of dynamic range (or better) that is achievable in traditional
printing then try the new inks (with PK) on Epson Preium Semigloss/matte
paper." When I went onto the Altex site they list both...

Epson Premium Semigloss Photo Paper
10.4 mil 251 gsm
brightness 92
opacity 97%
single side
pigment or dye inks

And these two under the pro papers...

Epson Premium Semigloss Photo
10.4 mil 251 gsm
brightness 93
opacity 97%
pigment or dye

Epson Premium Semimatte Photo
10.0 mil 235 gsm
brightness 95
opacity 96%
pigment or dye

So my question is which one where you referring too in the above statement,
sorry if this seems obvious to most people but I just wanted to make sure.
Thanks again Paul!

C86/R800/R1800 carts are physically compatible with the R2400. The chips
are different. The MIS chip resetter will re-set Epson chips, so those can
be recycled. I've run MIS 2400 inks in these carts with Epson and MIS
chips, but MIS has not put any of the materials on its web.

The MIS 2400 color inks appear to be the same as the MIS Pro colors. The LK
also appears to be the same. The PK is not the same, since the 2400 (like
the R200) needs a lighter load (mix PK with some LK). And, of course, the
LLK is new (but extremely close to UT1-Hex-Y). In short, you can put
together a 2400 inkset easily from readily available MIS materials.

I'm not sure why none of this is on the MIS website. They may just not have
enough of all the supplies (most likely chips) to sell them. Alternatively,
they may be trying to get a color set that is closer to the Epson colors. I
found there were some small but visible differences that might affect the
profiles.

A CFS for the 2400 is also in the works.

Premiuim Semi-gloss v. Semi-matte (was carts for the R2400 plus paper question?)

I use Epson Premium Semi-matte for my large display glossy prints.

Originally, availability in rolls and price were the Semi-matte's major
advantages for me. Frankly, I prefer the Semi-gloss's lack of optical
brighteners.

With the latest MIS UT inks, the Epson Premium Semi-matte ("PSM"?) now has a
significant advantage in lack of bronzing. The new inks on PSM and Kirkland
make very good glossy prints. The Semi-gloss, however, still has too much
bronzing, in my opinion. If one sprays the print, it doesn't matter.
However, if un-sprayed, the Semi-matte is now going to look significantly
better than the Semi-gloss.

Hope this helps.
