Has anyone tried the Museo MAX yet? If so, what ink, and how do you like it? Best regards, John Moody

They are going to let us know when it will be available. I asked for samples and they said ...soon... very soon.... I would expect sometime this month. John --- In DigitalBlackandWhiteThePrint@yahoogroups.com, "Greg" <dfaprinting@y...> wrote:

I've tried some - very briefly so far - more surface texture than I remember the Museo having (none on hand right now) - verging towards the Epson Watercolour type of surface (though not quite so pronounced). Only tried B&W using QTR - looks pretty good, but I'd say it gives me about the same look as I get right now with Arches Infinity - D-Max looks roughly the same (and about the same as Dourian Art by Red River - in fact it has a very similar feel to the Dourian) - just measured by the MkI eyeball. I found it wasn't quite as crisp/sharp as the Arches, which is about the sharpest/crispest paper I've used - so probably in line with most of the other better papers. Obviously I've only run two or three sheets through so it's not an exhaustive test, but I was a bit disappointed - it came out roughly the same as the two best papers I have found for my own use - and has a bit more texture them, and more than I like(paper has a very similar feel and texture to some of the lesser textured Innova papers - darned if I can remember all their names - maybe the soft textured) It's certainly a nice paper - and will be up there in the top of the list no doubt, but I don't feel it's a quantum leap... BTW the promo info only lists rolls - haven't asked if they are going to do sheets

There was some discussion about this paper awhile ago on the wide format list and one of the reps quoted a dmax of about 1.67. If that is correct it doesn't seem to be very outstanding and no better than HPR. I've a chance to do a bit more testing and have revised my opinion slightly. I am finding this a very nice paper. The texture is on the verge of being too much for me, but not quite (might be an issue with lots of smoothy sky area in prints) Other than that it does give very nice blacks - it has to be one of the best two or three papers (using MIS ebony black). Best of all I find it has a very neutral paper base. It is very slightly on the warm side, but it probably gives the most "neutral" b&w/grey of nay paper. I can't detect any tendency towards the horrible magentarism that many paper base/coatings give under mixed light, nor any tendency towards green. For me, along with the nice blacks that neutral nature of the paper is a big plus. I only got six sheets to try, so I can't do much more testing, but this paper is in the top two or three for me. (if only it had slightly less texture) tim

Thank you, for the update. The texture could be helping with the good black? EVFA has the same coating as EEM and the velvet black looks better to my eye. Do I remember correctly that Shades Of Paper is going to carry Museo Max? Best regards, John Moody

Okay, this is a bit weird - I just realised my samples are double sided. Museo doesn't seem to list that either on their website or on the spec/promo sheet they sent (though they do list it as a Spec for Museo II) So, if it is Museo Max they sent and it's double sided, that negates my texture comments slightly, as the "back" while still textured is somewhat less so than what I had taken to be the front. Either that or they sent two packs of Museo II by mistake (and if so, that's also a very nice paper!) tim
2005-11-01 by John Moody
Yes, bummer, here are the sizes listed on their site. I don't want a roll, and would have to cut the sheets to fit my 2200. BTW, I called Crane, the Museo II is a typo, I have alerted Crane, and they will update the page. They don't have any immediate plans for smaller sizes. 250 gsm Museo MAX Rolls 17" x 50' roll 24" x 50' roll 44" x 50' roll 50" x 50' roll 365 gsm Museo II (really is Max) Paper Sheets Sheet Size / Sheets per box 7" x 22" 25 5" x 47: 25 Best regards, John Moody

Final post for now. The paper isn't double sided, but it is coated on the reverse for "curl" control. Having run a test, it's about 90%+ close to the "real" coating - which makes it fine for printing text on the reverse - good for book projects. Smaller sheet sizes should arrive in the future - apparently big rolls and big sheets was their immediate market demand colour profiles are now available on he Crane site So, still seems a good paper, with almost, but not quite too much texture for me... tim a

IF Museo II is really Museo Max then there are a number of issues. First I have on hand Museo II is both 250 GSM and 365 GSM. I have them in both 8 1/2 X 11 and 13X19 sizes. This is very confusing. I know he will at least have some sample packs in the near future. I forget the approximate date that he gave me, but maybe a month or less? Same for the other paper (that I can't remember right now). I recently received some other products from him too, like the other Intelicoat canvas materials. I don't really prefer any of the glossy types, but the 100% cotton 20mil canvas looks like it might be nice. I didn't look too closely at the other Intelicoat papers to came in with that package, that testing will be coming soon (there are some other papers that look nice). The only other paper that stuck out was a luster paper that didn't have the typical "stubble" type finish, it looked very smooth to my tired eyes last night. There was a lot of stuff in that package, and I haven't really taken the time to sort through everything yet. The reason there is so much is that I'm rebuilding a paper sample catalog, and I'm going to organize it this time (charts, graphs, testimage, the whole 5 yards). All my other samples have been printed with several different ink sets, so I'm trying to make everything the same now (and yes its going to be a beastly amount of work).

Yes two completely different papers. When Crane was developing the Museo 2 paper they were playing with a lot of different coatings and at the end of this developemet, after they had created Museo 2, they discovered an enhanced dmax coating that they are now calling Museo Max. Anyway that is what they emailed me several weeks ago. Sounds logical. We'll see how max the max is blax. The Museo Max will not be available in dual sided sheets or rolls, at least not in the immediate future. Hopefully this media is as scuff resistant as they claim it is. The original Museo was really tender. John --- In DigitalBlackandWhiteThePrint@yahoogroups.com, "Timothy Atherton" <tim@K...> wrote:

I get 1.670 with eboni on the R200. I did not expect it to feed on that printer, but it does. Just getting started, so too early to comment on anything else. Paper white is Lab 98.0, -0.1, 1.6. Best regards, John Moody

If that is correct it doesn't seem to be very outstanding and no better than HPR. [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]
