BO printing and the R200

BO printing and the R200

2005-11-12 by brianechapman

Hey everyone,

I read Clayton's article and I am interested in trying BO printing. I currently have an HP
Photosmart 7350, and while it prints color in 2400 dpi, when told to use only the black
cartridge switches to 1200dpi. The few test prints I made left me dissappointed because I
thought the dots would be much less visible than they were. I have not been able to find
out if the Epson R200 does the same (switch to 1200dpi)...I'm basically trying to figure out
whether or not it's worth buying a R200 over what I currently have or waiting until I can
get something better.

Thanks! Brian

The R200 prints up to 2880 and doesn't switch dpi like your other
printer...prints excellent B/O using the MIS Eboni black ink, and a
refurb only costs $75 w/free shipping from epson.com. You can then
sell the oem ink carts on ebay for $40-50, and buy the blank carts
and bulk pigment ink from MIS. But don't run dye inks through the
printer and then switch to pigments; you might end up with clogging;
rather run only pigment inks.... I've had nothing but fine results
with the R200, have sold several prints from it, had many positive
compliments on the B/O prints, and only one brief clog after not
running it for 2 weeks on the Y nozzle.

Thanks Mark! And thanks for the tips on selling the carts - I don't think I would have
thought of that!
