Varnishing

I have searched the archives and come up with a variety of information but would like to post a question about varnishing. I have been playing around with Golden polymer gloss varnish and really like the finish after about four coats. This has been successful with prints I've had around for awhile. However, newly printed prints are smearing. I have tried some sennelier lator fixative but it doesn't seem to help (or I am not waiting long enough). Some questions: 1)I found Lascaux is very popular. If I am going to use a gloss varnish over it do I need Lascaux or will something else be fine? 2)How long should the print dry before adding a fixative? I use UT7 on photorag and photorag satin. 3)After the adding the fixative how long before varnishing? Basically, all I want if for the ink not to smear when I varnish with a water based varnish. So how is this achieved. I assumed that all I needed to do was spray it with some fixative and then it wouldn't smear. I am having mixed results. I am testing a variety of things, and have noticed that with the sennelier on PR satin, the deepest blacks still smear. Anyone done this with polymer varnish? Do I just need to let my prints dry longer? I had a PR satin print that was 10 days old and applying polymer varnish directly on it, it smeared. Is this more to do with the coating on the satin? Since I'm varnishing anyway, maybe just regular photorag is fine. Sorry about all the questions. If you feel like taking a stab at any of them I would appreciate it. Scott
