Hi all, I need your help

Hi all, I need your help

2005-11-21 by Rick

My name is Rick and i'm a member of the digital rebels groups. I own a Canon 20D and
would like to take my prints to the next level. I own a epson 1280 photo printer and the
prints come out awesome. I finally bought the spyderpro2 calibrater and calibrated my
monitor. My color prints come out fine but my black and whites don't print as they appear
on the screen. They usually have a cast not true blk and wht. My settings are as follows in
photoshop. ADOBE RGE 1998 / COLORSYNC GRAY-GENERIC GRAY / DOT GAIN 20% / I
KEEP ALL IMBEDED PROFILES.
Can someone help me get nice black and whites without converting my printer system to
total black and white inks?

Thanks Rick.....

If you want to use the 1280 with color inks then you are probably
going to need a RIP to get good BW. QTR is very capable and
inexpensive and very popular. Here's a web site for information

 http://www.harrington.com/QuadTonePC.html

There is also a forum like this for it but I don't have the URL.
Maybe someone else can provide that... Good luck with it.

Regards,
Clayton

Probably not. Trying to get stable, neutral color out of pure color inksets
is virtually impossible. The Epson 2400 is the best answer for those who
want to do color and B&W.

Clayton,

The 1280 doesn't have the light black ink that QTR needs for good B&W from,
for example, the 2200.

Ok, understood. Thanks for the tip. In that case I second your
recommendation of the 2400. What a great printer.

I was just talking with someone the other day and looking back over
how far we've come and comparing the 2400 to the struggles of just a
few years ago. Makes me wonder what we'll be using four years from now...

Clayton
