2200 printing problems

2005-11-26 by jwpenland

i have an epson 2200 and a PowerMac G4 Dual OS 9.2.2 and OS 10.3.9 / i
can print fine on the OS 9 but printing on the OS 10.3 is grainy by
comparison! i just loaded an epson stylus pro 2.0 RIP and have no idea
how to translate that into good printing on the 2200 / can anyone give
me a direction to go? i just returned to the group (as a lurker) from
an absence while i figured out my new bellsouth DSL extreme service
and want to do some printing but feel overwhelmed! jwp

I didn't see any replies to your post so I'll take a stab at it. I
can't speak to the Mac OS part, but there seems to be a general
agreement that the Epson RIP is very poor and not worth the time it
takes to use it. Most good BW on the 2200 is done with QTR or some
other RIP with the color inks, or with the MIS UT7 inks (with Epson
driver or with a RIP), or with the new Piezo K7 inks and QTR, or with
Black Only (BO) printing.

BO printing is easy (and the 2200 is an excellent BO machine). It
doesn't require buying or installing anything special, so you can
start right away with what you have and make prints using that while
you decide what other technique you might want to try. There is lots
of info about it at the link below.

Clayton
