B&W printing on an Epson Photo Stylus 925

B&W printing on an Epson Photo Stylus 925

2005-11-27 by Vince

Hi All... new to the group and have read thru tons of the archives
trying to get up to speed on high-quality B&W printing.

I have an Epson Photo Stylus 925 that I use with good results for
color but I am wanting to get back to the thing that called me to
photography in the first place.... Black and White.

Most of the B&W info available on this group (and elsewhere) seems to
be focused on the traditional Epson workhorses (C84/86/1280 etc)....
I'm wondering if anyone has played with speciality inks for the TO27
cartridge ??

I'm not familiar with the 925. It appears to be a relative of the 820,
which MIS appears to have part for. However, I take it from the MIS
materials that it uses what I'd call the old style carts (not easy refill).
With these some refill from the bottom, the foam in the sponge blocks the
ability to get a full refill. There are CFS units that can solve the
problem if the system is worth it.

I'd guess the UT-R2 inks with the ICC workflow would work fine in the
printer, but it's un-tested.

Given the price of an R220 (about $70 -- see eBay, etc.), is it worth the
gamble?

Hi Paul... thanks for your reply (and great web site, BTW!)

Yeah, I'm starting to think along the lines of "replacement" as
well... probably makes sense to have a dedicated B&W anyways so that
I'm not always flushing inks etc.

Given all the options would the R220 be your choice (assuming I'm not
made of money !)

For 8x10, the R220 is the state of the art now -- and for $70, a great
value.
