wacom tablet note

2005-12-01 by Dan Daniel

I haven't seen it mentioned, so I will point out that if you are left-
handed you can set up the tablet to the left of the keyboard and any
mouse or trackball desired to the right of the keyboard and move very
smoothly between the two (assuming that you already use a mouse with
the right hand).

Adding a tablet does *not* mean having to get rid of a standard mouse.
They can both be active at the same time. You do *not* have to use
only the tablet mouse. Desk space becomes an issue but once you use a
tablet and see how nice it is, you *will* find the room!! And the
problems of trackballs in doing graphics will become moot so using a
trackball will save desk space.

True.
I keep an old-fashioned ball mouse wired into my machine, for when I
get into some grunt utilities or safe mode and the tablet or tablet
mouse won't work. the computer doesn't care how many pointing
devices are attached.

Hi. This is my first post to this forum, although I have been
monitoring it for some time.

I've been reading the discussion about the wacom tablets with
interest. I was wondering what people's experience was with using one
(especially the smaller 4x5 ones) with two monitors. I've read mixed
reactions elsewhere about how well that works. Thanks.

Hi Larry...

I work on two monitors, mainly with images (as opposed to graphic art) but not always.

I am setup with Photoshop CS. I put my image on the left monitor and the toolbars etc. on the right monitor.

I work with two mice (one on the right and the Wacom mouse on my left). Also the Wacom pen on my left. I'm left handed.

I find this setup very efficient and relaxing. When I work detail areas I simply expand the image in Photoshop.

My Wacom is a 6 X 8 (which measures outside 10 X 11). The fact that the tablet is not the exact ratio as the two monitors is essentially invisible to me. I just work.

I use a two monitor set-up and a 4x5 Wacom Graphire tablet. I use the
cordless Wacom mouse most of the time, and pick up the Wacom pen for
some Photoshop operations. It's worked well for me for the last few years.

I am using a 4x5 Graphire model, two monitors, with the tablet
covering both monitors. It works fine for me. I am not doing lots of
paths and other masking that requires lots of precision; maybe if I
was I'd notice a lack of resolution, at which point I'd zoom in.
