Epson 2200 vs 1280

Epson 2200 vs 1280

2005-12-03 by photoman1936

Hi
This is my first post to this group and I have a question for the
group after I give you a little of my back ground. I converted to
digital about 4 years ago and have been using Epson 1280 printers with
the MIS CFS's one for B&W with UT2 inkset and The other has MIS GP
inkset for color. It looks as if the color 1280 is dying and I will be
replacing it with either another 1280 or posibly a 2200. My question
to the group is which would be the better choice. I would love to have
some of the newer printers but I cannot justify the expenditure.

Hi Ron

Just my personal opinion, no wish to offend 1280 owners.
I've had the 1280 for about 2 years, first with Epson cartridges
and then with MIS CFS. I use now the 2200 which I've had for
about 1 year, with Epson cartridges, except the black where I use
the MIS ebony.
I believe the 2200 is a vast improvement in terms of reliability, meaning
less prone to clogging. If you use a CFS it does not matter but if you
go with cartridges, having separate ones allows for better management
of ink consumption. It is also less noisy, and a little bit quicker. Print
quality is also better but not vastly improved over the 1280.
So if you can find a used 2200 in good condition it is well worth it,
IMHO.

Regards

Andrei

Yeah, I agree --- same experience here --- i had 1280 for about a
year, and then got 2200 it is better in all respects - if the price
is similar, and/or you don't mind paying the extra, get the 2200...
with QTR it works just great! From everything i've heard 2400 is of-
course ideal... but i'm gonna wait for that one...

Re: Epson 2200 vs 1280

2005-12-04 by Bob Michaels

I faced your decision two years ago when my 1280 begin to clog
incessantly with pigments. The 2200 certainly required less
maintenance. But the 1280 printed as well, I knew how to make it work,
had workflows, had custom profiles, inks, carts, etc. I bought another
1280 because I had prints to make right then.

I'll face that decision again probably within the next year. My
current 1280 is doing fine but they don't last forever. I'll probably
get a 2400 this time. In fact if I hit a period where I have time and
MIS has the 2400 inks & carts sorted out, I may get a 2400 before my
current 1280 expires. It's all a matter of time to sort out a new
printer.

BTW if you do change printers, change from the MIS GP ink to the MIS
PRO at the same time. It's a better ink. No sense having to go through
two changes when you can roll it into one.
