advice on a profiling device???

advice on a profiling device???

2005-12-02 by Jim Panzer

Hi all, I was wondering if I could get some suggestions on a good profiling
device for my Epson R2400. I am not a professional so I can't spend a
bunch. I have consistently been getting dark prints since I have owned the
printer, nothing seems to work except placing a silly lighten curve to every
image before I print, which degrades the image. And I thought something
that lets me linerize the printer, then make profiles for my paper and ink
combo would help me. Thanks in advance!

Save your money.
You must have something wrong in your workflow. Have you tried printing
"test" images available for download? If they look dark, profiling
equipment won't help you. I'm sure you can get this sorted, hang in there.
What OS, printing application, and driver mode are you using?

Best regards,

RE: [Digital BW] advice on a profiling device???

2005-12-02 by Jim Panzer

Hi John, I am using Windows XP pro-sp2, and you name it and most likely I
have tried it. I have printed a test file and all the boxes from 95 to 100
percent are always black, more so on matte papers. I am certainly not an
expert but I do know enough to confuse myself... :) I am using the papers
profiles correctly too. I just don't know what else to try, hence the
profiler...maybe I should get one made first though, and those things seem
expensive.

Steve, are you talking about the color space when you say "Possibly the
wrong workspace..." I think I have PSCS2 set to adobe rgb...

Thanks guys;

Jim

John you are right, though it would be worth Jim going to
http://www.normankoren.com/makingfineprints1A.html and checking that his
monitor is properly set. And it's free.

I've found the 2400 profiles to be extremely good. Actually better than
either the custom profiles I made myself or those from a friend with
considerably more expensive equipment.

Regards,

Peter

I thought the original poster was using Adv B&W. The Epson profiles are
useless for Adv B&W. First question to original poster: what is your
greyscale workspace?
