B&W setup - question from a beginners

B&W setup - question from a beginners

2005-12-05 by lscaglio2002

Hello to all!!
I a wet printer but recently I begun to scan my TriX negs and I master
them with Picture Window Pro; when I try to print with my r800 the
results are terrible. I would like to keep the r800 for color prints
and buy a printer for B&W works - my budgeds is limited (I just bought
a Summicron and few money is left!!). I read about the c86 and the
r220 with special inks (MIS, ecc)but I don't know if I can use them
with Picture Window Pro.....any suggestion will be helpfull!!

Thanks
Luca

PS sorry for my bad English

The C86 with MIS inks is what I would recommend. It uses 4 inks instead
of 6, like the R220.

For Black Only printing, the R220 is the way to go.

Paul and/or Clayton can give you more info on the pro and cons of those
choices.

Yes, Picture Window Pro will work fine with these printers. Both can be
controlled with the settings and sliders in the printer driver. With the
R220 one of the additional approaches I am trying is to use ICCs to further
match the monitor and print.  For this approach, PWP does not work;
Photoshop or Photoshop Elements is needed. However, the R220 driver by
itself is very close.

Comparing the C86 and R220, the C86 is a bit simpler just because it has
fewer inks. It also has a slightly better glossy print dmax. The R220,
with those extra inks, is smoother. It also has a better matte paper dmax
than the C86. You can get to my Readme files on the two printers from my
index at http://home1.gte.net/res09aij/index.htm.

Hope this helps.
