Roll Paper and flaking

Roll Paper and flaking

2005-12-08 by Steve Kale

How are you guys dealing with flaking on roll paper (eg HPR)? Do you pull a chunk through the machine, brush it down and then wind it back? I'm worried about all that movement through the rollwers etc. (Epson 4800)

Cheers

I do unroll it, but not through the printer. Rather, I unroll
significantly more than I'm going to use from the roll (with the paper
laying on top of the printer), brush it off, then roll it back up, THEN
feed it through the printer. I would not want to be putting fine art
paper through the rollers more than once. The more things that touch
the paper, the more likely it is to be scratched or scuffed.

Cheers. I need to roll off a lot of paper. But I need to get a bigger
brush first. My little brush was fine for 13x19in paper a sheet at a time
but isn't going to cut it on a long piece of roll paper...

Are you getting flaking with factory sized rolls? They really should be
clean from the factory, but what should be and what is are sometimes
different.

Yes. Not much but one flake is one too many. I have never successfully
repaired a flake in an image...
