syringe maint.

syringe maint.

2005-12-09 by hogarth@snappydsl.net

Years ago, I bought a 60ml syringe from somewhere - MediaStreet maybe?
It's purpose is to load ink carts. When I started using PiezoTones with
my 7600, you could only buy the inks in 4oz bottles so I had to fill my
own carts.

The more I use it, the harder it gets. It's like the rubber seals on the
plunger need to be lubricated. Is there any lubricant I can use that
will help the plunger slide easier, maintain the seal, and not
contaminate the ink?

Secondary syringe question - anyone know where I can find a smaller
syringe - say 5ml? I want it to measures some darkroom chemistry when I
mix stuff for one-shot use.

I bought a 20cc Popper & Sons Micro-Mate luer-lock tip reusable glass
syringe from the following website:

http://www.allometrics.com/syringes_med.htm#pop_syr

They have them from 2cc all the way up to 50cc. The 5cc would cost you
$11 plus s&h. These syringes are as smooth as silk even after years of
service. You'll just have to learn to lock the plunger to prevent
accidental discharge as they are so smooth - use one finger to wedge
the plunger against the barrel. I found these reusable glass syringes
indispensible for handling inkjet chores.

Hello everyone!

I found many of my mixing tools in the infant section of the local
drugstore or dollar store, including 10ml oral syringes, graduated
spoons and 300ml graduated bottles. Perfect for one-shots of HC110 or
Ilfosol, and very cheap. The syringe even came with a special stopper
for easy filling from medicine bottles, and it's own cleaning brush.

Sorry if this is a duplicate, I had tried posting this before signing up.

Bruce.
In the US you can buy these at Tracter Supply Co. stores for under 1
$.They come in all sizes including very large ones.(large animals)
I suspect most farm supply centers would carry them as well if they
have animal medications for sale. The needle knows not it's target ;)

Duane
