?place to store some info about an image file in PS

?place to store some info about an image file in PS

2005-12-11 by Scott Jones

Greetings,

I am looking for a place to store some info about some of the
manipulations I have made on an image file. I am trying to clean up
some of my image file names this way. I know that there is the "image
info" dialog in PSCS2, but there doesn't seem to be a spot for history
or general information. ie: whether I used noise reduction or
presharpening etc. I thought there used to be such a place to describe
changes that had been made on a file. Am I nuts? Surely graphics people
must need this as well as photographers.

Thanks,

Scott

I use the Memo tool (I think that's what it's called) for exactly
that. It puts a little yellow rectangle on the image (can be moved
around) which expands to a memo dialog box. I put all sorts of
technical notes in them.

Clayton

Under General Preferences, you can have it record all your actions as
metadata in the file. You have a choice of three different detail levels,
where the lowest is just the start and end time, and the highest is a
complete record including numeric settings for every tool used. That may be
more than you want, but at least it's completely automatic.

Whoa thanks for this. I forgot that that tool exists. It is great and
just what I needed. You can even stick that note off to the side of
your image so it doesn't distract you. It is called the "notes" tool
and apparently these notes get transferred if you make a pdf of your
image as well. This is going to be handy for making indication as to
what kind of sharpening or noise reduction I have used and any odd
printing notes. Thanks for pointing this handy little bugger out!

Thanks to Paul DeRocco also for pointing out the history log feature.
