QC of Hawk Mountain Papers?

QC of Hawk Mountain Papers?

2005-12-12 by wwodets

I'm wondering about people's experience with the quality and
consistency of the Hawk Mountain papers. After my recent problems with
Premiere I'm a bit gun shy about smaller brands. The low cost of
seemingly good papers from Hawk Mountain is part of what raises the
question for me (I guess). I am particularly looking at the Merlin
Natural.

Thanks,
Walt

I have had consistently good experience with Hawk
Mountain. Suggest you give Diana York a call at Hawk
Mt so she can give you the details and comfort you
need.

My experience with Hawk Mountain matches Woody's. Good product and
very friendly, easy to deal with people.

There is a real advantage to dealing with smaller sized businesses
dealing with our niche market instead of some huge company where our
entire slice of the market is insignficant.

Re: [Digital BW] QC of Hawk Mountain Papers?

2005-12-13 by Greg

Something to note:

Notice that Hawk Mountain sells what they call proofing quality
papers made of the same materials as the premium papers. No one can
be 100%. They seem to catch most of the blemished bits and use them
for other things. That should even things out to less defective
premium product that ships.

The only real negative I can find is dmax on some papers with certain
matte black inks. I don't remember which papers were good, and which
papers were not, it's on the list to test for my paper swatch book.
Last time I tested with Eboni black, and two papers and all the
canvas were good, but several papers had a low dmax. Different inks,
different RIP, more control. The Innova papers turned out better this
time, I'm hoping that most of the Hawk Mountain papers will turn out
better this time too.
