Channel mixer bug ?

Channel mixer bug ?

2005-12-17 by Ernst Dinkla

While looking for a way to make ICC profiles in Photoshop
(with Kodak Custom Color Tools) that convert RGB color images
to monochrome RGB with the spectral sensitivity of specific
B&W films I see that the Channel Mixer preview blocks the
output choices. That is with Photoshop CS (1). If I select
monochrome and use the sliders to get the desired effect and
then deselect monochrome to color again I can't save the
result as a color image, it will output monochrome instead as
if I kept that monochrome choice. If I stay in color all the
time it allows color output. Is this a (known) bug or a
feature ? :-)

I think I am following what you are saying, but it seems to work fine
in CS2, it stays as RGB

Missing media types in 2400 driver

2005-12-17 by Harry Saddler

Ok, I'm sure I'm missing something obvious, but in the print settings
dialog on my new 2400, three paper types are disabled: Velvet Fine
Art, Watercolor/Radiant White, and Ultrasmooth Fine Art. They're
missing whether I'm using matte or photo black ink. Driver version is
2.53. Clayton's workflow prefers Velvet Fine Art for matte papers,
but... how do I choose it?

You need to have the right paper source - manual feed. The driver knows
these papers can't be fed through the regular feeder and so when that is
selected they are disabled. Makes a lot of sense when you get the hang of
it.

I haven't upgraded to CS2 either CS works as you've described.
As a workaround one can do Mixer thing on a separate layer set to
luminosity mode. Regards

Ok, I knew I'd figure it out right after clicking the send button....
you have to select page setup: "Manual - roll" instead of "Standard".
Sheesh. Bad menu labeling if you ask me (trying to cover my
embarrassment).

I read "manual - roll" as "roll feed", not "manual sheet feed and
roll feed". I plead not guilty on the grounds of overthinking the
problem.

RE:Channel mixer bug ?

2005-12-18 by Frank Kolwicz

Ernst,

I've noticed what you describe (I think), so I checked Photoshop6
Channel Mixer and here's how my version works:

With an 8 bit RGB image, select Channel Mixer, click Monochrome, then
un-click it. The image loses color but the file remains an RGB file with
the same data in all three channels. When Monochrome is off, you have a
choice of R, G or B channels in the Output Channel menu instead of Gray
when Monochrome was checked ON, but there doesn't really seem to be any
difference among the three channels when switching the Output Channel
colors.

I suppose that, if you were to need a monochrome version of a color
image to layer into another RGB file, this is one way to do it. I don't
see any other use for it.

Regards,

Frank

Thank you all, nice to be able to check that not all that
doesn't work is caused by myself.
