Don, Welcome to the forum. >Am currently using an Epson 880 4 color (8.5" x 11") printer ... Does anyone out there know what 13" printer this one is similar to? >I'm using the MIS variable mix quadtone inks after going to Paul >Roark's site and reading what he thinks. The curves are very printer-type and computer (Mac or PC) specific. That is, each combination has a different set of curves. Not all combinations are supported equally. >But just a note ---- with the Epson default >driver my prints look pretty good. Good. If there is no curves set that is appropriate, a grayscale adjustment like the Woolf FS curves might be all you'll need to get satisfactory results. >1. when you actually output are the files RGB or B&W / grayscale to >start with ? With my curves RGB is needed to apply the curves to. If we can get an estimate of the closest printer to the 880, I'll send an information sheet to you. >2. I'm sure I'll get various answers but what is the most used / >preferred paper I think Epson Archival Matte is a great paper and bargain. It's what I use for writing the curves. Check prices at <www.atlex.com>. >3. Paul -- do you think the 1280 curves you have would be close on >the 880 ???? I don't know. >4. Is anyone using a reflective densitometer (xrite / gretag) to read >the black values ???? Yes, sometimes. (For example, the last VM-Sepia test, using the existing MIS VM "warm" curve -- which gave a neutral print -- had a 50% reading identical to the last Piezo EAM profile test strip.) Most people have scanners, however. And for comparing test strips done by the same scanner, they are very effective. Paul http://www.PaulRoark.com
