4800 USFA roll cutting

4800 USFA roll cutting

2006-01-11 by Olivier

I could not get a clear "experienced" reply to my query : US manual
says one should not use the build-in cutter with rolls of fine art
papers including Epson USFA. European manual does not mention it and
European support team... does not know !!!

Anyone having a feedback on this please. I can't see the problem unless
the head can't move on due to the paper thickness, but I doubt...

Thanks.

I cut HPR with mine without issue so far. Doesn't make sense that you can't
cut Epson roll paper in a machine built for it. If it breaks I'd simply
make them pay for it anyway on the basis that the machine SHOULD handle it
regardless.

be a no-no. I suspect the upshot of this is I will
have to replace the cutter perhaps sooner than normal
due to dulling. Otherwise, no problems.

It's not that I can't : it's simply that I don't dare trying. Surely
in the US you have no problem to get the supplier service the printer
if a trouble occurs, but here in France it's just another story...

HPR you use is 308g ? if so, thickness is 0.48mm, close to the 0.5mm
of USFA.
You never had to replace the blade (I mean due to excessive pressure)
or trouble with the cutter head being stalled...

I really don't feel like cutting it before printing.

Thanks for your help Steve.

Do you know if 7600 and 4800 cutting systems are similar by any
chance ?
Thanks for the reply.

Yes 308. I'm in the UK. Of course there will be wear and tear, especially
on the blade, but if something actually breaks in the sense beyond normal
wear and tear I would have no problem demanding that Epson fix it,
especially while under warranty. At any rate, I doubt it's an issue as the
blade seems to slice through HPR like a hot knife through butter.

It sounds very positive. Just an additional question : do you leave
the cutting mode set to auto/standard or do you set it for heavy
paper and slow cutting ? Do I need to bother ?

(Sorry for the US reference... Anyway having lived in the UK, the
Channel still calls for a big difference in customer service and tech
support.)

I've just left it on standard but others may have better advice. You'll
need to use Double Cut if the image runs close to your page size.
