(via Dealnews) Through Jan 21 Bestbuy.com has the R220 for $95 and a $50 mail-in rebate form (or fill it out online, according to the form). "You should receive your rebate within 8 weeks." is what it says on the form.

Unless you just like malls and stores or are in a hurry for a R220, that doesn't seem like much of a deal to me given that the Epson Store only charges $100 for a new R220. I think the Epson Store shipped my R200 re-furb ($59) from Indianapolis and charged me for California sales tax too. A set of carts for the 200, even from Atlex.com, is about $63 plus shipping (only, outside Florida). Judging from the Epson packaging my carts came in from Atlex, the 220 and six other Epson printers use the same carts. If BestBuy has these carts for appreciably less, I'd be tempted to stop for carts when I was nearby, especially if they also have Epson's R2400 carts at relatively low prices. -- Sam

That makes no sense. If you want it delivered, Best Buy is still significantly cheaper. They charge about $10 for shipping. My plan is to use MIS cartridges, so cartridge cost is not a factor. I was going to order a refurb R200 from Epson until Paul talked me out of it, and I've been waiting for the inevitable sale, meanwhile practicing BO printing on my Canon i550. The value of $50 depends on the person. I don't particularly enjoy stores or lines, but ordering on line and stopping by at my leisure to pick it up is easily worth $50 to me. Or having it delivered for $40 less than Epson direct. Why not? It gets even better if you have a printer that uses these cartridges and want genuine Epson carts. You would actually save money buying the R220 at Bestbuy during the rebate period. For less than the cost of a set of cartridges, you get the carts, plus a printer you can sell, keep as a backup, or use as a dedicated B&W printer. --- In DigitalBlackandWhiteThePrint@yahoogroups.com, Sam McCandless <samcc@v...> wrote:

The deal is that the $50 rebate comes off of the $95 leaving a net of $45 plus taxes and shipping or you can pick it up if your local has one in stock. But it must be ordered online. Bob Sam McCandless wrote:

I see now where Sam's confusion came from. I'm sorry that my original post was not clear. Bob did a much better job. Yes, the rebate is from Bestbuy.com, the online store, although you can opt to pick it up at a physical Best Buy if you wish, and the net cost is $95 - $50 (+ tax and shipping if applicable). Again, for about the cost of the OEM color ink cartridges, you get the cartridges plus the black cartridge plus a printer. The R220 is not for everyone. It feels rather flimsy, and by today's standards is bulky and slow for it's limited offerings. Also it is reportedly poor at printing text or mixed pages. Not a good choice for a primary general-use printer. However, it is by all accounts an excellent photo printer, and combined with the appropriate MIS inks appears to be the cheapest and easiest entree to high quality greyscale printing. It will also print on specially coated CD's, though I'm not sure how well that works. --- In DigitalBlackandWhiteThePrint@yahoogroups.com, Bob Thompson <bobt26@e...> wrote: > > The deal is that the $50 rebate comes off of the $95 leaving a net of > $45 plus taxes and shipping or you can pick it up if your local has one > in stock. Epson has it's own rebate offers. Various Epson printer models, purchased together with a new 3MP or better digital camera, or with a new PC, get you a $50 rebate. If the camera happens to be one of certain Nikon models, you can get an addtional rebate from Nikon (may have expired?). At first glance, I don't see any obstacle to combining the Best Buy and Epson rebates. --- In DigitalBlackandWhiteThePrint@yahoogroups.com, "Frank Vincent" <hollidaypr@h...> wrote: > > I thought the deal was only if you bought a camera as well. > > Frank > > > >From: Bob Thompson <bobt26@e...> > >Reply-To: DigitalBlackandWhiteThePrint@yahoogroups.com > >To: DigitalBlackandWhiteThePrint@yahoogroups.com > >Subject: Re: [Digital BW] Epson R220 - $50 rebate from Bestbuy.com > >Date: Thu, 19 Jan 2006 13:46:53 -0800 > > > >The deal is that the $50 rebate comes off of the $95 leaving a net of > >$45 plus taxes and shipping or you can pick it up if your local has one > >in stock. Getting them aligned properly is a bit tricky at first. >SNIP > Again, for about the cost of the OEM color ink cartridges, you get the > cartridges plus the black cartridge plus a printer. I have one, and am taking advantage of the BB deal to get another set of inks and a spare printer for BO... Great suggestion btw. I haven't used it much, primary printers are 2200 and 7800. Jim

My fault, Sam. It was one of those days where I couldn't put an intelligible sentence together, whether spoken or written. James, that sounds familiar re the character Epson CD printing. IIRC the older R200 had a problematic CD tray which was fixed in the R220. But I find those stick-on inkjet labels hard to align as well, and putting stickers through a printer makes me cringe, so printable CDs sounds like a step up. By the way, James, are you planning dedicated greyscale, or dedicated black only? Your post read like you might intend to just load the one black cartridge in one of the R220's, which would imply that the R220 will print without the full complement of cartridges, which is an intriguing and potentially useful trick. Probably dedicated greyscale... I don't think it will print with just one cart in the slot, although that would be awesome. I suppose I'll have to check out just to be sure it can't! Otherwise I'll probably try out the UT-R2 inks with Eboni. Jim On 1/20/06 1:38 PM, "DigitalBlackandWhiteThePrint@yahoogroups.com" <DigitalBlackandWhiteThePrint@yahoogroups.com> wrote:
