Re: [Digital BW] Re: NEW EXCHANGE

2002-01-08 by Steadman Uhlich

I participated in the FIPPE 30 and I have watched the progression of exchanges and in my own opinion (what else?) I think there is no problem with having as many exchanges as there are volunteers to run them.

I think the new volunteers would save everyone a lot of hassle if they would only read the FAQ on how to put together an exchange. The blood (paper cuts anyone?) sweat and tears (that is tears of paper) undergone by the previous exchange coordinators/martyrs should not be overlooked.

So...if one volunteer coordinator wants to start an exchange that is 13x19 or all about old cars or limited to 6x6 scans or features only pet cats...so what?

As long as the exchange coordinator is the one doing the work...so what?

Just because an exchange is announced and available, does not mean that participants from previous exchanges have to join this new one.

So....I say go for it! The more the merrier.

As for another opinion...I think 30+ prints is too many in an exchange. I personally think the 10-15 print number is better and would be more likely to participate in smaller exchanges like that as it would take half the time to produce/collate them. Just a suggestion.

I wish I could participate in more, but I just don't have the time to do so now (I am behind in production due to a printer in the shop).

So What?

  Mark-

Sorry if offering another one offends you. It has been my impression
that demand exceeded availability as far as exchanges go. The present
one is limited to 19x13 and as far as I know was always scheduled to
be 10 participants and end Feb. 1.

I guess it will be a bad idea if no one signs up and I will stand
  corrected.

Just for the info, how often and how large do you feel exchanges
  should be and offered?

  Thanks for the input.

I agree with you Steadman. 30+ sheets of 308 photorag, plus time printing is
just too much for me. A group of 15 would be great.

Steadman and Julian-

Point well taken... I hope to do this on a "regular" basis and it
will be much more manageable at my end with the smaller number as
well... I was just following "convention" with this number for my
first one. I've tried to assimilate all the FAQ info and advice from
former coordinators.

Thanks for the input.
