Hahnemuhle Museum Etching and Crane Museo Max for limited edition portfolio

Hahnemuhle Museum Etching and Crane Museo Max for limited edition portfolio

2006-02-07 by john dean

I am being hired to print a limited edition portfolio of about 20
11x17's, each portfolio, and somewhere between 10-20 total portfolios.

I just orderd some of the Hahnemuhle Museum Etching to try because I
have always loved the German Etching texture and tonality. I also am
considering the Crane Museo Max because it has a similar texture that
is very nice and this a very durable coating from what I can determine
through tests so far, which German Etching did not. I do worry about
the Crane Max's ability to take a lot of max black though. Both of
these papers are expensive and that is a given, but I want 100% rag
and everything else I use either is either too smooth or has too much
texture (such as William Turner) or is not as nice.

These prints will be either printed with Piezzotone K6 or Epson K3 or
both, mostly black and white. Both of these inksets are more durable
than Ultrachrome. But, these prints are going to be handled a lot for
many many years. Spraying is possible but not desireable and I haven't
decided about that yet.

Any thoughts or experience with Museum Etching and/or Museo Max would
be useful.

thanks,

John
