Searching for artistic black and white florals

Searching for artistic black and white florals

2006-02-04 by Clarence Walker

I have been searching, with little luck, for the style of images I have seen
in years long ago of black and white floral close ups, probably in the style
of the masters or classic images, wherein the image is a true work of art in
all respects, i.e., light, shadow, contrast, the full gray scale,
composition, interest, crystal clarity and infinite focus. In the past few
hours of searching, I simply haven't been able to find this as most are
simply close ups or macros of flowers with little real visual interest. What
I am seeking is a site with lots of works where the flower is captured with
the artists eye and then finished with the care and attention to detail of
an Adams rose or more such as this:

I'm sure there are many more. Keep looking.

Hello Clarence,

Steve Karafyllakis has a lot of beautiful floral work at his web site:

-I have two suggestions:
Cy Decosse make beautiful floral images, both color and platinum
prints. He's represented by the John Stevenson gallery, BUT if you go
directly to the gallery site there is no way to find his images.
Instead, Google "cy decosse". The first listing will be for him at the
Stevenson Gallery. Click that and you will be somewhere inside that
gallery's website that you can't get to from its homepage (go figure).
The first images of his are color. Look down in the lower right for a
reference to his platinum work and hit that. That will take you to the
page of platinum prints. Very beautiful.

Secondly, Brigitte Carnochan makes wonderful floral images, hand
painted on her silver geletin prints. They, along with her nudes, are
gorgeous. You will find them at the Verve Fine Art (Santa Fe) website:
www.santafephotogallery.com . She is on the list of artists on the
homepage. Gallery 2 has the florals, gallery 1 the nudes.

My third suggestion (out of two!) is to try to find the platinum
florals of Kenro Izo. They are in his first book, and he is
represented by Howard Greenberg. But I do not know where, if anywhere,
they are on the web.

>This is a quick follow-up on my earlier post about this question. You
don't have to bother with the Stevenson Gallery site to get access to
the Cy Decosse galleries. His work is also cataloged on the Verve Fine
Art site I mentioned. He is in the small print at the bottom of the
list of represented artists. Click there a you will get into his
galleries.

Try this:

Dick's photos are very well done, in the traditional manner. He's an analog
guy in a digital world.

Not that it really matters but you can access all the artists at Jon
Stevenson by clicking on the Gallery room in the navigation image and
then selecting the Alphabetical Listing of Artists. Without a link to
the page it is unlikely Google would have been able to index it.

Here is the direct link if you want to look:

BTW, DeCosse didn't make any of the platinum or color prints.

Both portfolios were printed by Keith Taylor. The color prints are
tri-color gum bichromate prints.

Here is Keith's web link:
