VM Workflow Questions

VM Workflow Questions

2002-01-09 by nsimms

I've got a VM inkset on the way for my 1160, and have been playing
around with the workflow to make sure I understand it before the ink
starts flowing. I'm using PS 5.5 on a win98 box.

I'm confused about some of the steps:

>> 1. The Color Space is set in the general Photoshop Color
Settings location -- click on Edit, Color Settings.

OK, as there's no entry in the drop down Edit menu for Color Settings,
I assume this means I should go into "File -> Color Settings -> RGB
setup" and set RGB to "sRGB" (as specified for the 1160 in the chart).
There is a Gamma setting here, too - I assume I should leave it set to
2.2, as I normally do on a PC, despite what step 5 says below?

>> 2. In the Epson driver, set Print Space to Same as Source.

Is this referring to the "Print" dialog, which comes up when you
select "File -> Print"? There is a selector titled "Space" at the
bottom - there is no "Same as Source" value in the list, so I assume
this instruction means set it to "sRGB", the same as the value set in
step 1?

>> 5. If there is a gamma setting, set it to 1.8.

Is this referring to somewhere in the Epson print setup dialog (I
don't believe my 1160 has a Gamma setting anywhere within this dialog,
but perhaps other printers do)? Or does this refer to a Gamma setting
somewhere within Photoshop itself?

>> 11. The Photoshop color settings (Edit, Color Settings) are the
Photoshop 5 Default spaces.

I have no idea what this means. I thought I set Photoshop Color
Settings to sRGB in step 1 - what are the "Photoshop 5 Default spaces?"

-----

Sorry if I'm being dense here. This color space stuff is confusing to
an old B&W printer like myself...

If these questions have already been addressed some time in the past,
I'd appreciate it if someone could point me to the post, FAQ, etc.,
and I'll stop burning discussion group bandwidrh!

Thanks,

Neil S.
