Innova Fibaprint Gloss & Da Vinci Fibre Gloss

Re: Innova Fibaprint Gloss & Da Vinci Fibre Gloss

I have tested the da venci paper the last dayes with a R800 and its I would say looking maby
even more like the surface of agfa multigrade paper. The tonal range is very similar to Silver
rag. The bace color of da venci are whiter than silver rag. I personaly like the Silver Rag maily
becource of its bace color wich has a more nice yellowish bace and Da Venci is more bluish
whrite.

Both paperes are beutifull and I am going to have both to get to know them better during
longer time.

I did not see any mor broncing than on the silver rag but it might be due to the R800
optimaicer lack? The test print I got made on a 4800 had diffence in the gloss in the most
white arias so I think it needs a spray of primeir art to get a totaly even surface. Is this the
cace also with Silver Rag on K3 inks?

Just some more opsavations,

I have just made some more test on the Da Venci paper and comparied it to Silver Rag (beta)
and the Da Venci is clearly just a bit sharper shoving grain in the tones 20-40 RGB qouiet
more sharply and also more grainy. I do have only the Silver Rag beta but I like it a bit more
as the defuss soft sharpnes are more "enlarger like". I black and whrit grains arias the Da
Venci looks amacing sharp and the same print on Silver Rag looks beutifull soft and less hard
grainy.

I've only seen beta samples of Silver Rag - hopefully we'll be getting
some more next week. The Innova paper is smoother and has less of a
fibrous texture than the beta SR. None of them are indistinguishable
from air dried fibre glossy. Close, but not indistinguishable. By and
large, the silver gelatin papers I'm familiar with are smoother than
these inkjet papers, and there is that subtle difference caused by the
image sitting in the gelatin rather than on the surface. There is one
noticeable difference - D-max and density range. The inkjet papers do
have a greater density range than air dried silver gelatin prints, but
it takes good illumination to see detail in density of 2.3 to 2.5.

Personally, I'm not too bothered about an exact match - I'm more
interested in a glossy or near glossy paper that is an alternative to
the RC look. That's not because I dislike the RC look, I'd just like
some choice.

Best,
Helen

Helen thanks! I pm'd you on the other site. I guess I could have posed my question
differently. I was hoping if it were indistinguishable that would mean it had all of the depth
and resolution along with a gloss finish (minus the lustery or rc thing) that I needed to
convince me I couldn't do better in the darkroom... finish wise that is. For my taste, it
either has to be as good or better than a traditional print otherwise completely different. If
not, I feel like I cheated myself and I end up with a pit in my stomach knowing I could have
achieved a little more (of what I desire) with a traditional print. Oh well. It's good to have
so many choices.

Take care.

Bob
