The questions that raises are that these tend to be older devices, with the usual reliability, maintainence, and compatibility issues older equipment can have. Or use a newer device to emulate a densitometer. This has the advantages of allowing you to use the device for other purposes, such as L*a*b* value readings, ICC profile building etc. But this may cost more. However, the price balance isn't quite that it used to be, as you should be able to get all of this (densitey values for QTR, Lab measurements, and ICC color printer profiles) from PrintFIX PRO, for under $500. So the lowest cost solution for density only is still likely to be an ebay densitometer, but the price for getting a more flexible solution is lower than it used to be. C.
