Minolta Dimage SD IV

Minolta Dimage SD IV

2006-03-01 by Un Globe Trotteur

I just bought a refurbished Minolta scanner. I am really impressed with the B&W scanning of my agfapan APX 100. On the other hand, I tried to scan the new Fuji pro 160S 35mm film and it was awful. The blue sky came out gray looking. I tried a picture of my daughter and it was not sharp at all. It could be because it's a newer film and it has a different emulsion. I have not tried an older type film.
Is it supposed to be a good scanner?
Any feedback would be appreciated.
Thanks.

I've got the SDIII myself, as you've found, it's a very good scanner for
B&W. You should play some with the colour options, the software is a bit
unintuitive. As it lacks DigitalICE as well, I can't really call it a
good solution for colour scanning.

Hi Trotteur:

I have this machine, and it does good scans. However, I use Vuescan
instead of the Dimage software. There were problems with the usb
connectivity every time I used the scanner and that software (OSX). I
though Vuescan did a better job anyways, and I already had it.
Vuescan, unlike a certain German scanning software, allows one to use
more than one scanner with it's software, and has unlimited free
upgrades!

I mostly scan slides and they are generally on colour. Colour
negatives are ok colour wise but display a lot of grain. Since I've
got a digital camera, it's use has been declining.

With this type of cartridge, I use a syringe full of water to rinse off the
outlet. Then I just put some tape over it. My goal is to keep it clean and
not let any dried ink form there that might get into the head when the cart
is re-used.

HP carts (for non-DesignJet models) contain the actual print heads, having
those dry out is fatal. Epson carts are just containers full of ink... no
particularly sensitve external parts.
