BO Printing getting started

BO Printing getting started

2006-03-29 by Ronald K. Johnson

Hi all, very new to this group. Migrated from the "wet" darkroom.
Have always like BW photography and to that end bought a HP8750 for
color as well as BW which I am pleased with. Trying to get a handle on
BO printing and think the epson R220 is available here in Australia.
So please where do I start any url's etc on the net. Have also a HP930
which has two tanks as well as Canon S200SPx for cheap office and web
stuff, but, it seems to me all my available printers will not suit.

I think the R230 is the Australian equivalent of the R220 -- see
http://www.epson.com.au/products/inkjet/stylusPhotoR230.asp

The R230 is built for 240V power, and there may be other differences. A
couple of weeks ago there was a discussion on this list about problems
with R230 printers not recognising replacement cartridges from MIS --
the suggested solution was to use chips removed from original Epson carts.

Welcome to the forum. There is a series of articles at the link
below, some of which are on the subject of BO printing. The one for
the R200 can be applied to the R220.

My notes on the MIS UT-R2 B&W inkset are at
http://home1.gte.net/res09aij/R220_R2_Readme.htm.

I highly recommend that approach.

It's working for me. Try it a few more times. If it's still dead, I can
probably sent it to you off list.

Thanks Paul. Been a big help just have to sort out the printer model equiv here looks like it called a R230 here. Only other thing was I thought maybe I had to set up a Continuos Ink Supply system but not to sure yet. Will sort it out anyway. The various A4 epson printers look very affordable and I dont want to mess with my 8750, save it for the larger prints, just get my feet wet.

again many thanks to all who have replied

A side note on AU/US & ESPON.

I'm immigrating to AU in a couple of months and have found out that
the C-series and the R2xx series I have, which are 110-220v 50/60
cycle can't come with me because (according to Espon AU tech
support) the cartridges from Epson have a different stock number and
a different chip. AU carts won't work in my US equivalent printer.

I can only guess at Epson's motives (hopefuly off-list!), but it
appears to me the markup in AU (after adjusting for exchange rate
and 10% VAT) is higher than in the US and they want to prevent a US-
to-AU gray market.

Has anyone verified whether 3rd party chipped carts sold in the US
work on AU Epson printers?

Is Epson tech support in AU fibbing or mistaken and that, dispite
different stock numbers, the AU Epson OEM carts will work in a US
Epson printer?
