Trying again...ink level adjustment help in QTR?

Trying again...ink level adjustment help in QTR?

2006-04-02 by sagaface

I use a 2200, printing with either K2/Eboni with BO and QTR. I've read a few
threads where people mention using the ink limit adjustment with certain papers...how do
you know which papers benefit and by how much to pull back? I use mostly EEM/HPR.

Thanks,
Sarah

Hello Sarah.
I don't have a 2200 but since you have had no responses I'll give you
my version, for whatever it's worth. You would use the Ink limit just
as you would in calibrating and linearizing QTR. That means that you
want it set to where the D'max peaks and stops climbing higher or only
does so slowly with large increases in limit. Put crudely, you want as
much ink laydown as you can get without it being overdone.
By overdone, I mean to the point where it begins to flood your paper
and remain on the surface. If there is too much ink for the coating to
handle, it can actually reduce the D'max of the print. Some papers are
very prone to this. You can test for this by measuring the density of
the 100% test patch to see if it is less than the 95% patch. If it is
really bad you can see it visually by carefull inspection of the
stepscale in good light. Another crude, but I think accurate,
description of what flooding will resemble is to print on glossy paper
with a matt K ink. The dark parts that are Not glossy after printing
are flooded.
If you are using the Epson driver and not QTR and are using the
proper paper selection and epson papers and inks you should not see
any problem with ink limits. You normaly would only need to worry
about this if you were using 3rd party papers and/or inks. If using
the Epson driver you would only be able to indirectly control the K
ink limit by trying different paper selections in the setup to see
which one worked best.
Hope this is of some use to you.

Regards.
Duane

Duane, thank you, that did help clarify it's use quite a bit. Have you (or anyone else who
might be reading this) experienced any ink issues of this sort with HPR?

Thanks again....
Sarah
