Digital BW, The Print

Hi folks,
  I'm thinking about switching from an Epson 1280 with UT2 to an Epson
2400, so I can print color.  A question -- hmm, maybe two:

1) Has anyone done K-only printing with the 2400?  What's the method?
2) Didn't I read that Canon and HP are coming out with competition for
   the 2400?  Do you think those'll be any good for B&W?

Clayton's excellent web site recommends the 'Advanced B&W mode' in the
Epson driver for the R2400, which is not the same as 'K only' BTW

I have done it with the 3Ks MK and PK on a 4800. MK is quite warm, 
acceptable on EEM but HPR seems to be favored by viewers. 
PK is very, very acceptable on Premium Semi Mat (to me) although warm 
too and a disaster on Premium Glossy for me. I have not yet tested 
other papers I have (VFA, SemiGloss, Moab, USFA my favorite for 
color). All were printed using QTR.

As compared to Piezo iQuad, though the rendering is different, I'm 
comfortable with the 3Ks, but note I'm not bothered by the hue, which 
might be very different for other users. This will also depend on 
paper choice.
