ColorVision's spectro
2006-04-21 by Paul Roark
I've been experimenting with ColorVision's Print-FIX-PRO ("PFP") Spectro.
The beta software I'm using produces text files that work well in Roy's
"Create ICC" program. It may be the most cost effective route to making
high quality ICCs for the B&W workflows I work on.
The Lab readings are not exactly the same as those of my X-Rite DTP 22, but
which one is more accurate, what the normal variance is at various cost
points, and how much these minor differences matter are all very open
questions. We'll be exploring this issue.
The PFP Spectro does not read a strip automatically, but it takes less than
one minute to individually read my usual 21-step test strips. (In previous
tests I've found individual readings are slightly more consistent than strip
reads, but the differences may not be significant.)
A flatbed scanner might be slightly cheaper than the PFP package, but the
flatbed scanner workflow I posted is not nearly as good as what one can do
with this ColorVision PFP Spectro. I'll be posting workflows for this unit
soon.
