Problems with Epson 2100 drivers/Win XP

Problems with Epson 2100 drivers/Win XP

2006-04-26 by mshakeshaft

I am having a bit of a nightmare with my printer. I use an Epson 2100
for printing B/W (using black only). I recently updated my computer
operating system from Win 2000 to XP and also updated my Epson driver.

This caused me numerous problems.
1.The new 2100 driver does not support 2880 dpi in black only mode!
2.Even though I was selecting 'Black Only' It was still using colour!!!!
3.Everytime I turn on my printer, I get the New Hardware found message
and it tries to install the drivers again!

I resolved some of the problems by using the 2200 driver from Epson
US. I can now get 2880 dpi and use black only. My only problem is that
it still tries to reinstall the drivers everytime I turn the printer on!

It really is driving me to distarction. Does anyone have any advice on
this? Thanks.

You probably need to (a) uninstall any old driver versions you have
first (b) install the new driver strictly according to Epson's
instructions, which might (for example) require you to install the
drivers _before_ connecting the printer. You can get into the 'new
hardware every time' situation if you do things in the wrong order,
like connecting the printer before installing the drivers etc. You
_must_ follow the driver vendor's instructions to the letter to avoid
this. Also, the order of events might vary according to the type of
connection used (USB, FireWire, parallel etc).

Unfortunately I no longer have my 2100 or any of the documentation so
I can't help further.

I had a similar problem on the r220 at home. After messing around with the
drivers I was getting a "found hardware" message every time I switched on
the printer and then an error message telling me it couldn't install the
drivers. The printer was working fine of course.

I had to go to "Control panel > Hardware > Device manager" right click the
printer and uninstall, then reinstall to get working drivers... I think...
Either that or I used "Update driver" from the device manager.

Move to quarantaine

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
