Help end my confusion!!!!!!!

Help end my confusion!!!!!!!

2006-05-26 by lancscott

I need to replace my elderly hp 7960 which I have been very happy with
for black and white printing. I know people here are generaly anti hp
and pro Epson. Before the hp I was using an ealier epson model with
ez inks. Results with that set up were ok. I know have an epson r200
which I could try ez inks in again. I was puting the thing through
it's paces with the stock inks and the results were pretty bad. If I
go through the trouble to get the mis inks will I see an improvement?
The other obvious choice is to go with the media street products and
the quadtone rip. I also wonder if I should get a better printer.
Would love to get a new epson 2400 but not sure if the budjet will
support that. I'm just not sure what to do. I know that I really
miss printing on a true matte paper as the hp did not really support
this choice. Please help.

[Digital BW] Pure black & white or CMYK Black & White?

2006-05-26 by Sean Smith

Looking around on the internet there are people who say they get better
results when printing with an inkjet by using only black ink. I've tried
this as opposed to using the CMYK colours of my printer to make up the black
& white and find that my photo's seem to have a slight greenish hew.

Has anyone found this and found a reason for it?

This is printing with an Epson Photo R200 printer on Epson and Canon glossy
photo paper and using Epson original ink.

Would a matt photo paper be a better option?

Cheers
Sean

Yes. The stock dye inks are very poor for BW, and are not archival.
The MIS R2-N will give much better results.

If you can save up for it it will be worth it. In the meantime, since
you already have the R200, a set of R2-N carts will be a good investment.

Clayton

The K ink in the stock set is a bluish-green in color. The people who
do Black Only (BO) printing almost universally use Eboni (MIS) with
matte papers. MIS sells carts for the R200.

Details about BO printing can be found at the link below.

RE: [Digital BW] Pure black & white or CMYK Black & White?

2006-05-27 by Tom Baker

Sean -

Black only is not you only option, especially with the R200. MIS sells a set of inks (design by Paul Roark) that are all black and light black. These work extremely well. Also, you can buy these carts prefilled as well as being able to buy bulk inks to refill the MIS carts. In addition to this, it is quite easy to switch between the all blak ink set and the color inks. I have an R220 (in addition to my 9600) and have purchased the MIS all black inks as well as the MIS Pro color inks to use in the R220 and 9600. The veristility and economy of this set up (using the bulk inks to refill) is just great.
  Something else to consider.

Different inks have different tints. the R200 is a dye ink that is prone to a
green/cyan cast. Most Epson's are not pigment and black ink only prints a
slight sepia tint. Using specialty inks, or methods that incorporate color as
well as black and grays allows for control of tonality, and for neutralizing on
assorted papers.

Hmmmm thanks for the tip Tom. The Epson cartridges have the chip in them
don't they, do you have a special tool to reset the chip or do the MIS
cartridges bypass the chip?

I'm always up for saving a bit of money when printing as it helps to keep me
out of trouble with my wife (LOL).

Cheers
Sean

Sean -

Black only is not you only option, especially with the R200. MIS sells a
set of inks (design by Paul Roark) that are all black and light black.
These work extremely well. Also, you can buy these carts prefilled as well
as being able to buy bulk inks to refill the MIS carts. In addition to
this, it is quite easy to switch between the all blak ink set and the color
inks. I have an R220 (in addition to my 9600) and have purchased the MIS
all black inks as well as the MIS Pro color inks to use in the R220 and
9600. The veristility and economy of this set up (using the bulk inks to
refill) is just great.
  Something else to consider.

The K ink in the stock set is a bluish-green in color. The people who
do Black Only (BO) printing almost universally use Eboni (MIS) with
matte papers. MIS sells carts for the R200.

Details about BO printing can be found at the link below.
