Using both UT2 and MIS dyebase inks in 1280

Using both UT2 and MIS dyebase inks in 1280

2006-07-07 by Johnny Eades

Calling all experts (they are the ones who have done this before),

I have an Epson Silver 1280 printer that I purchased new and have up
to recently used only color inks in it by MIS inks. I think they are
dyebase, and now I want to use the newer printer for BW printing also.
Should there be any undesirable side effects from doing this. My other
1280 is slowly giving up the ghost and I don't have funds for a
replacement 1280 printer, so till I do, I'll have to make the Silver
1280 do double duty as both BW and Color.

Johnny, I switched back and forth from Eboni and MIS pigment colors to
UT2 and also cheap dye color for years with various 1280s. And I did
swap Eboni and cheap dye K always using cheap dye colors in my 890 for
years. I never had any problems at all. Paul Roark says he thinks the
Eboni and dye don't mix well. I never saw any problem but did use a
few drops of windex to clean out the parking pad on the 1280 when I
went from dye to pigment. My 890 is currently running on Eboni and a
color cart full of Windex (ran out of cheap dye colors) and it does fine.

Bottom line is that the 1280 and related 890 has always worked well
for me with swapping to just about anything. Some others have had less
desirable experiences. Never knew why.

And good to see you back.
