New web site

Hello All B&W digital printmakers,

I have for a long while been a lurker on this list. I have learned
lots by reading the technical tips by the help folks like Paul Roark
and Clayton Jones. Thank you!

I am pleased to announce a personal web site of a selection of my
photographs. I hope the photographs will be of interest. Thank you
for allowing this self indulgence.

Hi Philip,
I tried to send this off list, but it bounced...

I really enjoyed your web site - thanks for sharing it.

Phillip,

This is really excellent work. There is also a lot of inspiration here, for
me to get off my tail and look around. I used to say that I could make a
good photograph of our state capitol, given the right light, though I have
since receded from that position. Thank you for posting! I have forwarded
your url to friends who may be in need of a creativity charge.

Hello Philip

As a fellow lurker, I too have to step out of the shadows and commend
you on excellent work. Of course I want to ask you every detail and
nuance about how you achieved such a lightness and clarity in your
images, but perhaps you could speak more generally about your approach
to creating such high quality images?

Thanks again for the inspiration

Brian

Nice work. Since this is a technical group, why don;t you share some
info about your shooting and printing workflows?

Hello Yaakov,

Very beautiful, creative and refreshing work. Thanks for posting the
link.

Can you describe your process, and also what paper and inks do you
use, and do your print tones tend to be warmish or more neutral?

Congrats on a nicely done web site.

Regards,
Clayton

I may as well jump in here... these sites reminded of the work I am
trying to accomplish. I had a show at the School of Architecture at MT
State Bozeman a couple of years ago, and it was called "Place
Honoring". The show was grouped by geographic region, unfortunately
the website does not group them that way. On the other hand, random
works in a way also.

http://www.flatirongallery.com/gallery/thumbnails.php?album=5

As you can see, these are posted on a website featuring a gallery my
wife and a friend have started here in Billings, MT.

Best,

Paul

(These are conventional prints, btw, but scanned for the site. Have also
made some 5x7 digital prints from the scans with my Epson R220 using
MIS Eboni ink and Moab Kayenta paper with much help from Clayton
Jones' BO tips. Plus a lot of help here when I had paper feed issues!
The BO 5x7's rival and in some ways surpass the silver prints... which
may not surprise many of you!)

Re: New web site

2007-12-27 by Paul Whiting

Please excuse the fact that my name is plastered everywhere in that
series. For our gallery work we have the name of each artist
catalogued with the work and probably need a more discrete way of
doing this. Suggestions welcome!

Re: New web site

2007-12-27 by Paul Whiting

Philip et al,

Forgive me everyone, in my haste to post I did not comment on Philip's
work.. I was excited because it seemed we were addressing similar
issues, ie issues of the built environment and what surrounds us as we
travel the roads and byways of our country. We took different paths,
as is to be expected and I was too eager to show my path without
commenting on Philip's. His work is lovely, and has pointed up aspects
of our rural and urban landscapes I have overlooked.

Very few photographers, to my knowledge, address these issues, and
when I find one I'm pleased to see others share a similar concern.
Here in Montana one would think we'd be sensitive to what we are doing
to the stunning scenery here, but as you approach Billings for
example, where I live, you are greeted with model log homes, plastic
illuminated palm trees, junked cars, billboards, casinos, and so on.
This seems to prevail in many parts of the country, what William
Kunstler calls the 'crudscape'.

Thanks, Philip, for your vision opening my eyes to another way of seeing!

Paul, It is very rude to high-jack someone's else's post to talk
about yourself. Now it's hard to tell if someone is commenting on
Yaakov's site or yours. Why is it so difficult to begin your very own
subject line?

Mrs. Scrooge,

You're absolutely right. It _was_ rude, and I realized that later,
which is why I posted a comment later. Perhaps you didn't see that. I
deeply apologize.

Hey, Debbi, that's ok. I've learned something in this exchange as
well. I ought to have known better, for sure. I should know by now
that the speed and ease with which one can post in threads is also a
pitfall. I'm going to learn to count to ten slowly before I post!

I found your work stunningly beautiful. Thank you for sharing. I'm
interested also in knowing more about it. Digital or Film? What kind
of paper prints? Print tones? Nancy

Lovely images, nice clean web site. My only criticism is technical - that when
clicking on some of the thumbnails the large image doesn't change.
