Digital BW, The Print

I notice that the R220 has a advertised dpi of 5760 x 1440 dpi with a
droplet size of 3 picoliters, and the 1280 is advertised at 5760 x 720
dpi with a droplet size of 4 picoliters.  

Does this make a difference in the dot pattern for black only
printing?  Would the R220 produce better quality BO 8x10s than the 1280?

My experience is that these figures don't determine BO print quality,
which can vary among printers even of the same model.  I haven't used
a 220, but my R200 makes BO prints of just slightly less quality than
my old 2200 made, and a test I did once with a 1280 owner showed
virtually no difference to my 2200 prints.  However, I have seen 1280
BO prints of poorer quality as well.   So it can vary and I would be
hard pressed to make a definitive statement of 220 vs 1280.  

My guess is the 220 would be fine, and if you are deciding which to
buy, perhaps print size should be the determining factor.  The R220 is
newer technology (individual carts as well as fewer clogging
problems).  So if letter size is acceptable that might be the better
choice.  At $99 or less less it's hard to go wrong.   I hope this helps.
