Mounting and Signing Silver Rag Paper

Mounting and Signing Silver Rag Paper

2006-08-28 by James_Ble

Hi Everyone,

I've just started printing on Silver Rag paper and love it. I've recently transitioned to digital
and I have a couple of stumbling blocks. First, what is the best way to mount this paper?
Second, how are people signing it? Thanks!

Cheers, James

I'm using 13 x 19 now and finding it will stay flat enough with just tape
hanging behind an over-mat. I use Light Impressions archival tapes. It's
the first "glossy" paper that I feel looks good without dry mounting --
which I dislike. I think some others may be successfully using archival
corners for it.

There are apparently some art pens that you can put our pigment inks into.
However, I'm using Light Impressions' "Pigment liner" "Sketch" pens. See
their product number 20406.

If you want something lighter than black, the Staedtler Marsmatic 700
can be filled with one of the light gray inks. I'm using one and it
works really well. It has a .3mm tip which seems just right. I like
the signature to be more discreet, black ink seems too bold.

These pens come in sets of 4 with normal cost around $60, but eBay has
many vendors handling closeout merchandise and the sets are regularly
available for around $15.

Regards,
Clayton

It would be good to have a lighter ink. I'll give those pens a try.

ha, coincidence. i too started making prints with silver rag and was
wondering about a good pen to use. so far i've only done about 20
prints matted to 10x8 frame size. i ordred from DOCUMOUNTS.com and
also use a tape called PH7-70 1" width. they are a pretty neat site
and easy to order from, though it can take about two weeks to get an
order.

glad to hear the 13x19 prints hold up well with tape and the SR. are
you t-hinging with two t-hinges or are you using more?

for the signing, can you use pencil? or is an ink the best way to go?
i was thinking of signing the back of the print and then use a pencil
to sign the over-mat.

ps - new here :) have learned a lot from everyone.
