Hi Derek- Could you refer me to any documentation of the manual lens focus limitation (on the S!)? Thanks Bill on 1/17/02 6:41 AM, Derek Clarke wrote: Critically, it can't meter with manual focus lenses fitted and can't autofocus AF-S lenses. [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]

All manual focus lenses lack the electrical contacts to convey aperture information to the body. Pre-Ai glass even lacks the little horseshoe device to mechanically convey this info. Bodies without the Ai mechanical connection cannot read any manual focus lens either with or without Ai installed. Greg

http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/fujis1pro/page4.asp The S1 Pro uses the F60 body and has all the limitations of the F60. It seems I might have slightly overstated the case, if you have an MF Nikkor with a chip, i.e. an AI-P, then some metering modes work. It's just AI, AI-S lenses that don't couple to the meter, and AI lenses have to be modified to remove the meter coupling prong to fit. You see - It takes real expertise to track all of the variations of Nikon's one lens mount...

You're very close there. The coupling prong at the top of the lens was the very first kind of meter fitting, as the Nikon F metered via a prism it was very convenient to have a direct mechanical hookup between the lens and the prism, bypassing the body altogether. Later lenses had a mechanical connection inside the lens to convey the same information, and later lenses still use an electronic connection from a chip in the lens!
