Re: [Digital BW] Digest Number 4073 - promotion of products

2006-09-16 by Robert DeCandido, PhD

Hello,

I enjoy picking up the the tips/advice info from this list. However, I am somewhat annoyed that there has recently (again) been an increase in advertisements from paid consultants (employees) regarding products...specifically print fix etc. The person pushing this item (Mr. Tobie) has done a similar sort of info-mercial for the company by whom he has been employed through the years. And I remember well how other products touted by Mr. Tobie have not met expectation.

While I enjoy reading some of the information that David provides, the product promotion contained within those posts could easily be edited out.

Regards,

Robert DeCandido

Hi Dr. DeCandido,

I respectfully disagree, finding I enjoy and appreciate the product
information he is posting. And, BTW, PFP performs very well,
certainly meeting my expectations.

I agree with Paul. Mr. Tobie provides this forum with a lot of useful information. Also, the
product is directly related to B&W printing.

Chalk me up as another supporter of Tobie's posts. I find them very useful.
As far as I'm concerned, his competitors are more than welcome to provide
the same level of sensible commentary on the field in general---if they can.

It can be a fine line ... posting about products you know well, but
in which you or your employer has a financial interest. I believe
David Tobie has done a fine job walking that line ... offering us
helpful information, no hype, nothing negative about the competition,
and lots of useful posts in areas where ColorVision has no product offerings.

Well said Arthur,

Daivid and I have had our fair share different views over the years but if I want a genuine opinion on something I am doing he is the first person I would ask. I think that one has to run a fine line about answering questions or offering info in which one promots ones own products but I think he does it well, and you should remember, that there are a lot of people on all the groups who one way or another "work" for companies and do nothing but denigrate all other products irrespective of merrit and DON'T declare their interest, for that I commend Davids honesty.
